Stipend-only funding opportunity over three years to start in September 2026.

As part of this project, a PhD studenship is advertised. This is a two-stage application process. First, expressions of interest (along with a CV, cover letter, and a piece of writing) should be sent to Dr Rebekka Friedman by 1 March 2026. We will then provide feedback and encourage shortlisted applicants to submit a formal application and research proposal by May 2026.

The proposed topic should focus on a historical case of family separation and/or reunification during the First or Second World War (including the period immediately after).

The successful student will start in September 2026 at the Department of War Studies at King's College London.

This is a three-year European Research Council funded PhD studentship.
