Welcome to Nyi Nyi Kyaw
We are excited that Dr Nyi Nyi Kyaw recently joined the Relational Harm project.

Nyi Nyi’s project will examine relational harm among intergenerational Rohingya families displaced across successive waves of exodus since the late 1970s, with particular attention to the post-2017 genocide wave and to how family relationships have been strained, severed, or sustained across borders and generations. The study employs a qualitative, biographical approach built around three complementary methods. Life story interviews with elderly and senior family members will trace individual and family trajectories across the successive waves of displacement, capturing how relational bonds have been experienced, disrupted, and maintained over time. Family mapping (genealogical/kinship mapping) will visually and narratively reconstruct family networks, documenting who was separated, when, and through which displacement event, tracing patterns of rupture and continuity across generations and geographies. Semi-structured intergenerational interviews, conducted where possible with more than one adult generation of the same family, will explore how adult children and grandchildren of the originally displaced generation understand, inherit, or diverge from older generations’ experiences of loss, hope, and identity tied to displacement.
